This was posted on Facebook by a Shipmate, Roger Korth. It is
It’s not a three day weekend, it’s not a super sale,
It’s a special story or sailors who set sail
It’s not the picnic table. or barbecue on the rail
It’s deep beneath the ocean, their grave tells the tale.
Not fields of crosses white on green, no flowers do you see
No groundsmen trim the hedges, no visitors walk or grieve
No fences rise to close them in, no canon folder rings
No tombs to see, no psalms to read, no hymns to them we sing.
This Memorial Day please take the time to look upon the sky
To thank the memory of the price they had to pay
Send a praise to clouds on high, to sailors far and wide
That gave their lives and willingly died, for people like you and I.
Spot on. It is unfortunate Americans do not and cannot remember why we have Memorial Day, Armed Forces Day and Veterans Day.

Beautiful is right. Being a retired Sailor I have the honor of my son being a CPO on a ship out of Sasebo (the apple don’t fall far from the tree). Tonight he has duty and in the morning it’s underway for a 4 month round robin in WESTPAC, leaving a wife and three kids behind… wish it was me!
This day is important for many of us And I wish all our countrymen could feel the same. Unfortunately, if they never served, they will never know!
Enjoy this time, you earned it!
